Jason was given his first musical keyboard at age 3 and was immediately obsessed with notes, chords, rhythms and melodies. He taught himself to play and was performing popular songs and his own original tunes by age 7.

He discovered a knack for writing funny poems and elaborate stories. At age 15, the Auckland Youth Theatre (now the Basement Theatre) staged a production of ‘Under the Bed’ – an original musical with music and lyrics by Jason.

Jason began performing regularly with a comedy improv company as a musical improviser. His natural ability to enhance and elevate comedy, drama, stories and live performances through music led to him becoming in-demand by theatre productions and corporate events throughout New Zealand and Australia.
Jason continued exploring diverse creative opportunities. He began writing music for television short films. He performed in original bands and covers bands, made crazy homemade films, and developed skills in music production, arrangement and sound design.

In 2008 after performing in New York and Chicago with American screen composer Joseph LoDuca, Jason was asked to be the Music Editor for ‘Legend of the Seeker’ – an American fantasy television series shot and produced in New Zealand for Disney/ABC. Jason’s role was to work with LoDuca remotely, overseeing every aspect of the dramatic musical score including planning, admin, creating new music cues by repurposing individual elements of existing material, and addressing producer notes in the final mix. Legend of the Seeker won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music in 2009.
Today Jason works on an eclectic array of projects and collaborates with some of New Zealand’s best known musicians, writers and comedians. He is passionate about generating his own original content as well as continuing to freelance. In 2019 he wrote, directed, edited and performed in his own short film ‘Pride and Joy’, which is currently winning awards on the international film festival circuit.
